Decision Sciences' Multi-Mode Passive Detection System is a passive cargo scanning system capable of accurately detecting shielded and unshielded nuclear threats with near-zero false alarms. Technology Advancements

Decision Sciences has expanded the capabilities of its original scanner with great success.  Through the addition of latent gamma-ray technology, the company has increased the efficiency and effectiveness of the detector.  

The MT 3D Imaging video on the right was acquired from our full-scale prototype using preliminary reconstruction algorithms updating in real time. The image of the test scene shown was acquired over an extended scan time, but as early as 40 seconds into a scan, scenes containing simple medium-Z clutter are presenting clear evidence of the presence (or absence) of a high-Z threat object. The Company is aggressively proceeding with full statistical analysis of the scanner's capabilities and the implementation of more advanced techniques which will lead to improved material identification, imaging resolution, and overall performance.

Decision Sciences' MMPDS is ideally suited for seamless integration into critical infrastructure, ports, borders, and air and rail operations around the globe where there is an ever-growing need for efficient, accurate detection and deterrence of nuclear terrorist threats. Designed to be embedded within existing infrastructure or as a stand-alone application, Decision Sciences' MMPDS can easily be scaled to fit a wide variety of applications.

Key Technology

A key driver behind the success of Decision Sciences' MMPDS is a technology called muon tomography.  Muons are naturally occurring cosmic ray-induced particles that continuously rain down from the Earth’s upper atmosphere, harmlessly penetrating everything they touch. Decision Sciences' MMPDS tracks these muons, detecting and recording their deflection signatures with advanced proprietary software and algorithms as they pass through an object within the MMPDS.
